It’s May – one of my favorite months of the year in Washington State. Everything looks so vibrant this month with the brand new green leaves on the trees and the colorful flowers in bloom: tulips, rhododendrons, and lilacs. This month there is a ton of events worth attending. Here are just a few that may interest you:
May 1, 2017 – May Day Celebrations: May Day is an ancient northern hemisphere spring festival. Every May 1st growing up, my sisters and I made small May Day baskets, filled them with flowers, and anonymously left them on the doorsteps of our neighbors and friends homes. Doesn’t that sound fun? It is! Another way you can celebrate May Day is at Woodland Park. Bring a potluck dish, play games, sing, and dance around the Maypole to celebrate spring. (free)
May 5-7, 2017 – Cinco de Mayo Carnival at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe has carnival rides, a car show, food vendors, and of course, tacos!
May 13, 2017 – Seattle Maritime Festival: Visit Pier 66 in downtown Seattle for boat tours, walk-on tugboats, a boat parade, Coast Guard demonstrations, kids’ activities, a fireboat display, music, and a chowder cook off. (free)
May 14, 2017 – Mother’s Day: What a special day this is! After becoming a mom last year, I understand and appreciate MY mom more than ever before. Being a mom sure is hard work so treat those mom’s to something personal and special just for her. Get the kids together to write cards, draw pictures, do a craft project, or buy her something she will love. My favorite gifts are those from the heart – that took some time to imagine, create, or find. I also love experiences where we can share memories together, not things. On Mother’s Day weekend, mom’s ride free on the 70 minute Northwest Railway Museum train. Trains depart in North Bend or Snoqualmie.
May 21, 2017 – Host Family Day! I look forward to seeing you at St. Edwards State Park for our family picnic!
May 26 – 29, 2017 – Folklife Music and Dance Festival: Over Memorial Day weekend, the Seattle Center puts on a great music and dance festival. If you’re in town, this is a lively event to attend. (donation)
Have a great time out there and see you at Host Family Day!
