Strawberries, Solstice, and Summer, Oh My!

Seattle Summer Wheel

June is here!  Kids are (almost) out of school, families are vacationing and camping, local strawberries are available, outdoor street fairs are in full swing, and we’re enjoying the longest days of the year!  What’s not to love about June?  Here are a few activities to help you make the most of the season:

June 5-11 – Watch a film with the Seattle International Film Festival, the largest and most well attended film festival in the U.S.  You can search for films by genera, or by type – such as ‘teen friendly’ films.  There are nearly 100 films playing this week.  ($)

June 10 – Take a hike!  It’s free state park day so search for a hike that suits your style from 1 mile in-city hikes along a creek to 6 mile climbs to a waterfall.  This is a gorgeous time of year to hit the trails. (free)

June 17 – Visit the Fremont Solstice Parade and Fair!  For the best people watching in town visit the Fremont Solstice festival’s parade and fair with stilt walkers, floats, dancers, live music, cyclists, and plenty of self expression body paint.  Meet the parade at Gasworks park for the festival portion of the event including a main music stage or visit the street fair with crafts, food, and other vendors.  Parental discretion is advised for this event.  (free)

June 18 – Happy Father’s Day!  Does the father in your life like vintage cars?  Head over to the Issaquah Car Show.  Admire hundreds of classic cars at Fenders on Front Street while listening to live music and partaking in family friendly activities.  (free)

June 20, 22, 27 – Go to a Zoo Tunes concert!  Pack a picnic, bring your lawn chairs or a blanket, and enjoy some of the first outdoor concerts of the season at the Zoo.  SEU Jorge, Ziggy Marley, Seattle Symphony all play in June and are family friendly. ($)

June 24-25 – The Bellevue Strawberry Festival is an old Bellevue tradition and takes place at Crossroads Park.  There is strawberry shortcake, agricultural displays, face painting, touch-a-truck events, and strawberries for purchase. (free)

June 25 – The Scandanavian Festival  is another opportunity for you to visit St. Edwards State Park, the 316 acre park in Kenmore, WA.   The Scandanavian Festival, features Swedish music, dance, and traditions.  (free)

I’ll see you around town!
